Your Complete Deployment Packet‘s article PDFs use several styled callout boxes — small highlighted blocks meant to break up the body text and surface a memorable fact, a safety note, or a quick-reference guide.
Common callout types you’ll see in the article PDF:
- Safety / Key Callout — compliance thresholds, safety limits, regulatory ceilings
- Quick Selection Guide — decision matrices, “where to start” tables
- Start here — orientation notes at the top of a section
- If This Is Not Your Decision to Make — handoff language for forwarding to a director
You don’t need to recreate the exact PDF styling in your CMS. The goal is to give each callout visual emphasis so the reader’s eye catches it — a colored background, a left border, an indent, a boxed treatment, anything that says “this is important.”
How to format a callout by CMS:
- WordPress (Block Editor): insert a Pullquote or Quote block. Paste the callout text. The theme styles it automatically — usually italic, indented, or with a left border.
- Squarespace: insert a Quote block (it’s one of the basic blocks). Use the Bold style if available.
- Webflow: wrap the text in a Blockquote element, or add a custom CSS class your designer set up for callouts.
- Wix: there’s no built-in callout — use a Text element with a colored background, OR an Image element with the text inside. Match the color to your brand.
- HubSpot: use the Quote block or wrap in a custom HTML
<blockquote>element.
Three rules for callouts:
- Match your brand, not the PDF. Use your own colors and typography — the emphasis is what matters, not the exact style.
- Don’t put the callout right at the start or end — they work best mid-article, breaking up dense paragraphs.
- Don’t add more than one or two per article — too many lose their punch.
If your CMS doesn’t have a clean way to format a callout, leaving the paragraph as bold body text with a horizontal rule above and below is fine. The point is visual emphasis, not specific formatting.
Common callout issues:
- My CMS has no quote or callout block — use bold body text with a horizontal rule above and below. Visual emphasis is what matters, not the exact element.
- Callout looks like body text after publishing — the theme may not have styled it. Try adding a colored background or left border via inline styles or a custom class.
- Which callout style should I use for what? — Safety/Key for compliance data; Quick Selection Guide for decision matrices; Start here for orientation notes. When in doubt, keep it simple with a single Quote block.
